Introducing this month’s Entreprenista, Kelly Hu! Kelly was born in Honolulu and began modeling in Hawaii and Japan as a teenager. In 1985, she was crowned Miss Teen USA, becoming the first Asian American to win the title.  Shortly after, she landed her first professional acting job, a guest star role on the television series Growing Pains.

  • An avid traveler, Kelly has been to over 50 countries but still finds time for community and charity work.  She has supported the Center for Asian Americans United for Self-Empowerment and in 2004, produced and starred in an award-winning public service announcement for them titled "The Least Likely" encouraging young Asian Americans to vote.  

    She also gave support to the Shark Fin Ban, which took effect in Hawaii in July 2010, making it illegal to possess, sell, or distribute shark fins in Hawaii.  Completing the Honolulu Marathon in 2006, she raise over $100K for a reef conservation program she jumpstarted called Reef Check Hawaii.

    She also serves as Ambassador for Best Buddies, helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and hosted annual poker tournaments for Best Buddies California and the Best Buddies Friendship Jam in Hawaii.  She rescued both her dogs ‘Mushu’ and ‘Manapua’ and continues to encourage animal rescuing through social media.
